CBI arrests clerk for accepting bribe

Visakhapatnam: A lower division clerk of INHS Kalyani Hospital of the Indian Navy A Srinu Nayak, was arrested by the CBI here for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 1,200.

The bribe was demanded from two complainants for facilitating sanction of an advance of Rs 7,500 each for Cyclone Hudhud relief and for not creating any “problems” in clearing their bills in future.

According to CBI release issued here today, both the complainants are employees of INHS Kalyani Hospital here and were granted an advance of Rs 7,500 each as Cyclone Hudhud relief.

Lower Division Clerk Srinu Nayak of the accounts section of INHS Kalyani Hospital called them to his office on March 9 and informed them that he had facilitated sanction of Cyclone Hudhud relief to them and credited it into their salary accounts.

Nayak demanded Rs 600 from each of them as a “reward” to facilitate sanction and credit the amounts in their favour and also for not creating any “problems” in clearing their bills in future.

He also demanded illegal gratification to be paid to him in his office on March 11. Since both the complainants were unwilling to pay bribes as demanded by the accused, they filed a complaint with the CBI.

Based on the complaint, CBI Visakhapatnam registered a case vide RC 03(A)/2015-CBI VSP after which he was caught red-handed while demanding as well as accepting the bribe amount of Rs 1,200 from the complainants.

The arrested person was produced before Visakhapatnam’s Special Judge Court for CBI cases which remanded him to judicial custody until March 25, the release said.
