Superintendent Central Excise gets 3-yr jail in bribery case

New Delhi: A special CBI court has sentenced three years rigourous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 20,000 to a former Superintendent of Customs and Central Excise for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000 from a mobile shop owner in Guntur, a CBI spokesperson said here today.

“The Special Judge for CBI cases in Visakhapatnam has convicted Bhitravarapu Srikrishna, Superintendent (Preventive) in the Customs and Central Excise, Brodipet, Guntur in a bribery case and sentenced him to undergo three years Rigorous Imprisonment with fine of Rs 20,000,” the spokesperson said.

She said investigations revealed that Srikrishna while working as Superintendent (Preventive) in the Customs and Central Excise posted at Brodipet, Guntur had demanded a bribe of Rs 3,000 from the complainant (owner of a mobile phone shop) as a reward for not raiding his establishment.

“During the trap, Srikrishna was caught red handed while demanding and accepting the bribe of Rs 3,000 from the complainant,” she said.
