CBI arrests Central Excise Superintendent for taking bribe

New Delhi: CBI has arrested a Central Excise Superintendent for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs one lakh for not imposing penalty on the plant of an industrialist.

CBI sources said Chhappardhare, Superintendent of Central Excise, has been arrested for accepting an alleged bribe of Rs one lakh from a businessman.

CBI spokesperson said here today that a case was registered on February 16 against a Superintendent of Central Excise, Khamgaon (Maharashtra).

The complainant alleged that the Superintendent of Central Excise, Khamgaon demanded a bribe of Rs five lakhs from him for not imposing penalty on his plant.

The CBI laid a trap and the accused was caught red handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs One lakh as first instalment from the complainant.

Searches were conducted at the office and residential premises of the accused and incriminating documents recovered.

The arrested accused was produced today before the Court and remanded to Judicial Custody, the CBI release said.
