Thomson relieved from Sports Authority of India to join as next Kerala Chief Secretary

New Delhi: The central government on Monday relieved Sports Authority of India’s Director General Jiji Thomson from his post to his parent cadre Kerala.

DG SAI Jiji Thomson is all set to become the next Chief Secretary of Kerala.

Sports Authority of India’s Director General Jiji Thomson was relieved on Monday to join as the next Chief Secretary of Kerala.

Secretary, Department of Sports, Ajit M Sharan, a 1979 batch IAS officer of Uttar Padesh Cadre was directed to look after Thomson’s charge for a period of three months or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Thomson is likely to be appointed the Chief Secretary to government of Kerala.

Thomson, a 1980-batch IAS officer from the Kerala cadre, he will be appointed in place of E K Bharat Bhushan, a 1979 batch IAS officer, who superannuates in this month.

It has been learnt that the Kerala government has taken the in-principle decision to appoint him as the Chief Secretary and accordingly, he was relieved from his central deputation.

Thomson, who was born on March 23, 1956 in Kerala, is a post graduate in in Economics in first class.

Thomson had been on central deputation since 2008. He was holding the charge of Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and also holding the charge of Additional Secretary as well as Special Secretary in the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

Thomson was appointed the Director General of Sports Authority of India (SAI) in March last year, succeeding Desh Deepak Verma.
